I learned something new today. You have to hear about it.
Before the advent of RADAR technology, the American military came up with an ingenious method for spotting enemy planes. They built large towers and then asked people to sit in those towers and keep an eye out for Russian attackers. I can only assume that the people were afforded binoculars, but that's really just speculation.
I mention this because some of the last remaining towers are in Indiana. Now they're something of a third-rate tourist attraction - perhaps curiosity is a better word.
Why they built towers in Indiana, I'll never know. Maybe it was that guy's job to say, "Too late."
